Friday, May 20, 2022…It’s Opening Night–POP GO THE SAILORS SOLID GOLD!

NEW-FROM MR. LAWTON! Hello all!  I miss you all dearly and not being here today, on the seniors last day of high school, is heartbreaking! You have been such a wonderful group of students.

Still, I did not feel 100% yet this morning (I’m definitely doing much better though!) and I I also took a follow up covid test when I got up and it was positive (although, apparently that can happen for 30-90 days…). And Molly tested positive recently as well, so out of an abundance of caution, and to be able to be present for her too, I made the difficult decision to stay home today.

The last thing I would want to do is get any of you sick, especially so close to graduation. I knew there would be lots of hugs and goodbyes today too, which puts up in close proximity.

So this also means I will not be at tonight’s show as well. Please, please, please do amazing things tonight and treat your adult staff with kindness and grace! There is much on their shoulders and everyone is pulling together to help out and you all following the rules will help so much! Have a blast and do not worry about me–I’m on the mend and hope to back tomorrow night for the last show! Just have the time of your lives and enjoy these final moments with your friends and on that stage.

Not gonna lie, I have been having Nat send us video footage of rehearsals and others have Facetimed us during the show, so we’ve been keeping tabs, and you all look FANTASTIC!

I love you all! You are incredible people and both Molly and I will be there tonight in spirit!

NEW! SENIORS ONLY--I texted you a short questionnaire yesterday–if you have not yet done so, please complete it…like in class…today! Here a direct link to it:

BIG PUSH THIS WEEKEND TO BE READY FOR POP WEEK! The Pop Go the Sailors set must be built and painted and we could use YOU! Here is the build schedule. Feel free to stop in any time and stay as long as you are able!
TODAY-Thursday May 12-CANCELLED DUE TO MINI POP!
Saturday May 14-10am-5pm
Sunday May 15-1pm-5pm

NEW! Hey high schoolers! Thanks for volunteering to help out with the middle school Mini Pops tomorrow night!  This will be the first time many of these singers will be performing at the high school, so having some volunteers to show them where to go, how to move and how to act during a concert.

We’ll go over specific placements tomorrow night.  Middle schoolers have a  rehearsal from 6:00-6:30, so plan to be there at 5:45pm for a brief meeting before they arrive. We’ll go over specific locations then:
  • 3-4 of you will be on the end of rows directing students. Here’s the movement chart and concert program.
  • 3-4 will be in the empty rows floating and reminding students of concert expectations.
  • 1-2 will be backstage right helping Specialty Act students
  • 1-2 will stand at doors keeping the audience out until 6:30 and showing them the QR code program as they enter.
Think about which job suits you, and who you may want to work with for the concert. We’ll go over all of this at 5:45 as well, and you’ll have a chance to see the “flow” of the concert at the 6:00 rehearsal.
Thanks again for volunteering, and we’ll see you at 5:45 pm tomorrow in the auditorium! YOU ROCK!
-Mr. Closz

REMINDER! Hey high school choir members! Mr. Closz here. We’re in need of a few helpers at our concert on Thursday.  We have 150+ middle school singers who will be participating in Mini Pops, and we need some high school help to sit with them and just show/remind them how to be a good audience member. We’re not looking to call them out, but just gently remind them that when we’re at a concert, we need to be respectful of the performers on stage. If you have a younger sibling in the MSMS Choirs, this could be a great way to help them grow as a musician. This might be a great opportunity to earn some hours for Tri-M.  It’s also a fantastic way to make connections with younger singers and see some fantastic talent from your middle school compatriots; after all, they’re the future of the high school program.  If you’re able to help out, email me at closzr@monashores.net and tell me you’re interested. Even if you can’t help out, Mrs. Walden and I would love to see you at our performance this Thursday! The MSMS Choirs are stoked to see Pops next week – a good group should be there Wednesday to cheer!
