Pop go the Sailors “Stays Home” Audition Results

Pop go the Sailors “Stays Home” Audition Results

Congratulations to the following virtual acts that were chosen among 43 audition videos that were sent in and then scored by the staff of the MSHS Choir Department. Scoring was based upon the same criteria that we use to judge the Pop Go the Sailors when we have the auditions “live.”

Thanks to all that took the time to audition and it was wonderful to see you all again, even if virtually. I also want to thank choir senior Timmy Schneider for pushing to make this production a reality and for mixing the sound for many of the acts, to choir senior Connor Fritz who, beginning today, will edit the videos and create a professional looking production, to our choir staff judging panel-Molly Lawton, JaiLynn Petrie and Cindy Twining for their time and expertise and to Michelle Newman who right now is creating poster art so we can still have a sign on the choir room wall for this show!

This production will conclude with our traditional Senior “Walk-Off” complete with a Mr. Lawton speech and all of your lovely senior pictures and the reading of all choir seniors names, backed by the MSHS Alma Mater.

I’m also very excited to announce we will again be teaming up with Andy O’Reilly and his team at MuskegonChannel.com & our local cable channel 96 to premier this virtual production. A huge shout out to them for their continual support not only of our choir but to the entire Muskegon Community! Our goal right now is to have video editing complete no later than June 1st and we will announce soon, via all types of social media, the date and time that the show will go “live” on the airways! Stay tuned.

Here is the show line up which also includes not one, but two original “senior songs” this year, written and performed by senior members of the MSHS Choir Senior Class of 2020.

SENIOR CHOIR UNIFORM (AND OTHER) COLLECTION INFORMATION Tues. 4/19 @ 4pm-5pm

MSHS SENIOR CHOIR UNIFORM (AND OTHER)

COLLECTION INFORMATION TOMORROW

(Tuesday, May 19th from 4 pm until 5 pm in the MSHS east parking lot, near the orchestra room entrance toward the back of the lot)

It is important that you get this done as it is a condition of receiving your diploma this Friday. If you are unable to attend during this time frame, please contact me via email so we can figure out an alternative time to connect: lawtons@monashores.net

Hey Seniors!

I apologize for this being last minute, but it’s the best we could do under the circumstances!

We need to get your choir uniforms back (and some other things if you have them).

WHAT WE NEED BACK FROM YOU

  • UNIFORM (Top, Tie, Pants)
  • SHOES (OPTIONAL)-Only if you would like to donate them (not required)
  • FOLDER/SHEET MUSIC-IF you have it! Some of you left this in your folder slot at school.
  • MATILDA SCRIPT (if you were in the show). If we get the go ahead to do the show in July, we will get the books back to you. But if we cannot, we don’t want to have to try and get them back later!

Here is the plan: (If you cannot personally drop this off, perhaps someone can do so on your behalf.)

PRE-ARRIVAL

  • Hang a sign or mark your car with your name on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
  • Put all items to be collected in the back seat or trunk of your vehicle.

UPON ARRIVAL

  • Enter the east parking lot (Performing Arts side by the big tower/theater). Head toward the back of the lot.
  • You will be directed to drive to up to one of three tables
  • Do not get out of your car. Pop your trunk if your stuff is in there or make sure your door is unlocked.
  • A parent volunteer (or I) will collect your stuff and make a note of everything you turned in
  • Give us a shout or a wave and head back out of the parking lot!

NOTE:  This collection is for SENIORS ONLY. We plan to allow all current 9th-11th graders to keep their uniforms &  music folders for next school year. We will wait on Matilda scripts too for now.

Pop Go the Sailors “Stays Home” and other Choir Info!

Tuesday, April 21, 2020

Hello Sailors!

This communication contains some new things since my last contact with you

AND ONE BIG (Pop Go the Sailors) ANNOUNCEMENT TOO!

First:

  • Have some fun and find out “What Choir Staff Member Are You?” Emily Mann has created a Buzzfeed Quiz so you can find out! Give it a try here: CLICK HERE!
  • Don’t forget to complete your first “official” graded online assignment by this week Friday, April 24, by 3:00pm. Here’s a link to the assignment in case you missed it: CLICK HERE!
  • Since you are not actually turning in this week’s assignment to Google Classroom (you are just submitting your Google Form answers), remember to go to Classroom and let me know you turned it in. It’s just nice for me to keep track of completed assignments there and I can also assign you a grade that you can see.
  • Those of you that were going on the overseas tour should have received an email with an updated refund release. Check the email you used to sign up for the tour–that’s the one it was sent to. More info on a notary signing day shortly.
  • Seniors, we are working on when/how we will collect your choir uniforms, folders/music (if you have them). More to come on this soon.

And now, for the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! If we can’t have Pop Go the Sailors, live, in the MSHS Performing Arts Center, we can still do the best we can–that’s what we do! Special thanks to Timmy Schneider for bringing this idea to me and doing a ton of the work. He also came up with the title!

“WEEK ONE” (4/20-4/24) ONLINE LEARNING-CHOIR

Hello Choirs!

Welcome to your first OFFICIAL week of online learning as this is the first week in which completing your assignments counts towards your getting credit in each of your classes. Many of you have done a wonderful job thus far with the meditation assignment, FlipGrid check-in, turning in your choir auditions and doing a music project last week!

It’s very important to keep up with your weekly assignments from here on out, and there are some of you I have not heard from at all. Good news for seniors, you’ve only got two weeks left in your non-AP classes!

After reviewing and grading all of the 161 projects turned in last week, I had an idea to do something different for this week’s assignment. I chose ten student projects from last week based on one or more of the following criteria:

  1. The project was unique, different, surprising or took a project in a way I didn’t expect.
  2. The project was very creative.
  3. A project only a few (or sometimes one) person that decided to do it.
  4. The project took guts, such as doing a performance.
  5. The student’s work represented the spirit of the project well.
  6. The project gave me the feels.

I have learned something from reading, watching and/or listening to ALL of your projects and I also believe we all can learn from one another. So let’s do it! What follows is this week’s assignment:

DIRECTIONS: Review all 10 projects below and then choose a minimum of three projects and share SOMETHING POSITIVE. You will use this link to share your responses: CLICK HERE! (See next page for project links)

The following projects are in alphabetical order, by last name, were selected by Mr. Lawton:

Again, You will use this link to share your responses: CLICK HERE!

This assignment is due not later than this Friday, April 24th, by 3:00 pm
